RYGS Frequently Asked Questions

I do not have much flying time. How do I know when is the right time to take the Private Pilot written?
There is no  "right" time for taking the written. A common mistake that some student pilots make however,  is putting it off until the last minute and delaying their check ride. Although some instructors say the optimum time to take the test is during the cross-country phase of your training, there is no evidence (in our classes) that students score any higher than those with less (or more) experience. Since there is no prerequistes for taking a ground school course, we assume no prior knowledge of those taking our courses. All subject matter is covered in detail.

What do I need to bring to class?
We provide all books,  pencils, makers, blue-line pads, etc. You need to bring the following items with you: flight computer (pasteboard E6B or electronic - we teach both), logbook, picture ID (for taking the FAA exam), and calculator.

When will I know the results of the written?
Since the test is taken on a computer, it is immediately graded, thus the results will be known immediately. The form given to you showing your grade should be kept in a safe place until you take the practical test for your license. At that point, it will be given to the flight examiner giving the practical portion of your exam (check ride).

Does this course cover all I need to know to get my pilot license?
These courses are "accelerated" courses, and, as such, are specifically designed to cover any and all questions that could be asked on the FAA knowledge test.  To be a safe and competent pilot, you must continue to study beyond successful completion of the written. This is true even after you obtain your rating or license.

Is this course guaranteed?
Our courses are guaranteed in the following manner: Should you fail the test (which is very unlikely), you may retake the course within 24 calendar months at no additional tuition charge. In some cases, where practical, additional instruction will be given (at no additional charge) so that you can retake the test without going through the entire course again.
